Meet the Team

It is important to have someone on your side to help you sort through the stressors of life and to find your way to the life you want and deserve. I look to co-create a therapeutic space with my patients, built on a foundation of safety, mutual trust and respect, and your personal values. My approach to therapy is collaborative and strengths-based, providing you with concrete skills to manage distress as well as a space to explore underlying barriers to wellness from addiction and/or mental illness.

I believe that therapy and recovery require creativity and flexibility, so I will work with you to individualize your care to your needs and goals. This also means that therapy needs a healthy dose of humor to help lighten the heavy loads we all carry day-to-day. A strong focus on self-efficacy (the belief that ‘I am able’), and values-directed decision making are the cornerstone of my treatment, which is intended to help you build the confidence needed to make changes to your life.

I received my doctorate in Clinical Psychology with a Traumatic Stress Concentration (2015) from Adler University in Chicago, IL and my undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology (2010) from the University of New England in Biddeford, ME. I have a decade of training and experience in the assessment and treatment of addictive disorders including pre and post-doctoral residencies from the APA Accredited Internship Program at Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation in Plymouth, MN and have remained in primary trauma and co-occurring addiction treatment throughout my professional career.

I have worked at every level of care in my career; from residential addiction/co-occurring treatment programs, to PHPs/IOPs, the outpatient care arm of a major hospital, to outpatient group practice. I began my private practice in 2022 and have carried the wealth of knowledge and experience through to my patients, ensuring they continue to receive the highest quality treatment that they deserve.

My Approach to Therapy

Dr. Gordon Canetta joined Canetta Psychotherapy in June of 2025 and hit the ground running (literally). He has become an invaluable member of the team at Canetta Psychotherapy, receiving glowing reviews from patients and their families.

Originally from upstate New York, Dr. Gordon brings a unique and exciting approach to therapy. With an emphasis on Stick Management Training (SMT) and specialized training in the Squeeky Toy intervention, Dr. Gordon is looking forward to helping patients meet their therapeutic and life goals! As he is still in training, Dr. Gordon will often shadow Dr. Sean, providing insightful clinical perspective when appropriate. You may see him in the background of your sessions with Dr. Sean and rest assured, he is HIPAA compliant.

Dr. Gordon is also out of network and only accepts payment in the form of treats at this time.
